Dr. Fazal ur RahmanFounding Director at University of Sargodha
Dr. Fazal-ur-Rahman at present is heading ‘Pakistan Institute of China Studies’ at the University of Sargodha as its founding Director.
Dr. Rahman since 1986 has a very distinguished academic career and has worked for more than 25 years at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) where in 2007 he established the first China Study Centre (CSC) in the country. He headed CSC as it’s founding Director till 2012 and left to establish Pakistan Council on China, where he holds the position of Executive Director. Besides, He taught at the National Defence University (NDU); served at Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI). He is currently a Non-resident Consultant and Editor-in-Chief of the IPRI Journal, a prestigious publication on current affairs.
Dr. Rahman holds a PhD from Peking University in South Asian Studies (2015), a Masters degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from the Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad (1984), a Diploma in ‘Conflict Resolution’ from University of Uppsala, Sweden (1989), a certificate in ‘National Security’ from Christian-Albrechts University, Kiel, Germany (1994), and is also a graduate of ‘Executive Course’ from Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies, Honolulu, USA (2000) .
He has been Visiting Fellow at the Institute for International Affairs at Ebenhausen, Munich, Germany, 1996; Fellow of Japan Foundation at Hiroshima University, Japan, 2001; Visiting Fellow at the China Institutes for Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), Beijing, 2004, Visiting Fellow at TUSAM, Ankara, Turkey 2007, and Fudan University Shanghai, 2011.
Dr. Rahman has contributed a number of research articles and book-chapters on China, East Asia, and Asian multilateral organizations. He is well traveled and represented Pakistan at several international forums especially Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Also he is a regular commentator on electronic media.
